The NHL’s Trade Deadline is Monday, March 21. As the weekend slowly persists, many reports continue to surface regarding potential trades. On Saturday afternoon, Frank Seravelli reports that the Bruins are looking at a number of defensemen. One name in the report is Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Calvin de Haan. de Haan and others apparently have “competition” for their services as the deadline approaches.
There are a number of major names reportedly available ahead of the deadline. However, mentioning de Haan’s name indicates a number of teams have checked in with GM Kyle Davidson. One day removed from trading Brandon Hagel to Tampa Bay for a haul, Davidson has another trade chip that is garnishing attention.
de Haan isn’t a massive contributor on the offensive side of the ice. That said, every Stanley Cup contender needs a quality defensive defenseman to bolster their blue line. In this case, de Haan is a hot commodity as this season’s contenders continue to load up for a playoff run.
The Blackhawks have one more game before Monday’s deadline. Following their matinee tilt with the Wild, the Hawks return to the United Center to play host to the Winnipeg Jets. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CDT on Sunday.
