The Chicago Blackhawks have signed goaltender Jaxson Stauber to a two-year entry-level contract. The deal carries an $883,750 salary cap hit and runs through the 2023-24 season.
The 22-year-old netminder stands at 6-foot-3, weighs 174 lbs, and catches with his left hand.
Stauber is coming off a strong junior season at Providence College. He posted a 21-14-2 record, 2.10 goals-against average, and .921 save percentage in 2021-22. During his sophomore year at Providence, he had an 11-7-5 record, 2.24 goals-against average, and .916 save percentage. That campaign included a Mike Richter Award Finalist nomination.
“Building off a sophomore season in which he was named one of college hockey’s best goalies, the sustained success he displayed during his junior year was notable as we believe that will continue with our coaching. His skill and competitiveness will add to the already strong crop of goalies we have in the system,” Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said in a release.
Jaxson Stauber’s contract doesn’t begin until the 2022-23 season, meaning the Chicago Blackhawks will have ample time to get a complete look at him through two full campaigns while evaluating future goalies. With the Blackhawks’ rebuild underway, Stauber will have a chance to prove his worth at the professional level in his new team’s system.
