Bears Add Trevor Siemian to QB Mix On Reported 2-Year Deal

This move begs to question of whether Nick Foles may be on the move.

The Chicago Bears are making moves late on a Thursday evening, and this one is a bit of a head-scratcher. Quarterback Trevor Siemian and the Bears have agreed to a two-year deal, according to player agent Mike McCartney.

The Bears’ QB room now grows to four as Siemian joins Justin Fields, Nick Foles, and Ryan Willis.

This move begs to question of whether Foles may be on the move. The former Super Bowl MVP is entering the last year of his deal, which just saw him pick up his $4 million roster bonus for the 2022 season. Foles carries a $7.67 million dead cap hit for Chicago this upcoming season. However, if the Bears were to cut or trade him pre-June 1, they look to save $3 million in cap space.

As for Trevor Siemian, joining the Chicago Bears is a homecoming of sorts for him. The 30-year-old QB played just up the road in Evanston for the Northwestern Wildcats from 2011 to 2014.

The Broncos selected Siemian in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft. After spending three seasons in Denver (2015-2017), Siemian had quick stints with the Vikings (2018) and the Jets (2019). In 2020, he split time with the Titans and Saints. However, New Orleans signed him outright from Tennessee’s practice squad and he spent the remainder of 2020 and all of 2021 with the Sains

Consequently, Siemian made his debut in Week 8 last season when Jameis Winston went down with a torn ACL. The Northwestern alum tossed for 159 yards and a touchdown en route to a 36-27 win.
