Prior to the beginning of the season, Zach LaVine let his shoe deal with Adidas expire. Since then, he has been using various shoe brands while he looks for a new company. LaVine has now signed on the dotted line with New Balance.

On the new partnership, LaVine said, “I’m partnering with a brand that’s investing in me and I’m investing in them, so I’m extremely happy”. LaVine joins the likes of Kawhi Leonard as one of the NBA stars that are partnered with New Balance. Currently, there are no other details on the deal. It is unknown if he will take part in commercials, like he does with his Mountain Dew partnership. With the Bulls being in one of the larger cities in America, they need that marketable star like LaVine. It helps put Chicago on the national stage.

Zach LaVine on the Court

Zach LaVine started his season looking to be the center piece of the Bulls. DeMar DeRozan and LaVine are one of the best offensive tandems in the league. LaVine sustained a thumb injury, but battled through it after a few weeks. Towards the All-Star Break, LaVine started suffering knee issues where he went to see a knee specialist. The results indicated that it was nothing serious, just lingering soreness leaving him day-to-day on the injury report. While LaVine has played his full load of minutes, his shooting percentages have suffered. With Zach LaVine not at 100%, teams are now comfortable forcing double teams on DeRozan. Both players’ offensive numbers have suffered as a result. Finding another point producer outside of these two has been difficult.

With earlier points production from LaVine and DeRozan, the Bulls were able to conceal their defensive woes. Now it is clear, even with Alex Caruso back, that the Bulls are not a top 10 defensive team. They aren’t getting any help any time soon either. Lonzo Ball was supposed to return soon, but it has been delayed 10 days for further evaluation.
