Turns out the Chicago Bulls’ meltdown in New Orleans not only affected their grip on the fifth seed, but Tristan Thompson’s wallet, too.

The NBA fined Thompson $20,000 for directing profane language toward a game official in the waning moments of Thursday’s loss to the Pelicans, per a ruling released Saturday.

The impetus for Thompson’s outburst was Ayo Dosunmu being charged with a flagrant foul on Jose Alvarado as the Pelicans guard attempted a breakaway layup.

Injury-plagued and in need of size, the Bulls signed Thompson in mid-February after the Pacers waived him. In 15 games with Chicago, the 6-foot-9 forward is averaging 5.8 PPG, 4.6 RPG, and 0.7 APG.

This instance isn’t the first time Tristan Thompson’s strong language has drawn attention during his young Chicago Bulls tenure. However, directing it at officials on this occasion will now make his wallet $20K lighter.
