On Tuesday, the MLB in partnership with Apple announced their new Friday Night Baseball schedule to begin the season. The league and Apple TV are partnering to stream Friday night games all season long. As a way to get customers in the door, the first 12 weeks of streaming will be free to fans. Within those first 12 weeks, the Chicago Cubs are scheduled to appear twice, while the Chicago White Sox will appear three times.

The league announced the schedule nine days before Opening Day. The first iteration of Apple TV’s Friday Night Baseball will air on April 8. Week Two will feature the White Sox as they take on the Tampa Bay Rays on April 15.

White Sox on Friday Nights

In addition to their April 15 date with the Rays, the White Sox once again take the Friday night stage on May 6 and June 17. In May, Chicago will venture to Boston to play the Red Sox in Fenway Park. A month and a half later, the White Sox are nationally featured in a rematch of the ALDS when the South Siders venture to Houston to take on the Astros.

The hype surrounding the White Sox as perennial AL contenders is very real. Three Apple TV slots in the first 12 weeks of streaming is certainly another nod to the excitement surrounding the club.

Cubs on Friday Nights

The Cubs will be featured twice on the new streaming platform for MLB. On Friday, May 13 the Cubs are out west paying the Arizona Diamondbacks a visit for their premier on Apple TV. Then, in the final free week of streaming, the Cubs are in St. Louis looking to defeat the rival Cardinals on June 24.

Although a rebuilding-type season for the Cubs, the team still draws fans and attention because of their national presence. WGN’s nationwide broadcasting created a large conglomerate of Cubs fans around the country. Apple TV is hoping to play to that audience with their two dates featuring Chicago’s North Siders.
