Chicago Blackhawks broadcasts will sound different during the 2022-23 season, with Chris Vosters replacing legendary broadcaster Pat Foley. Foley will call his final game April 14 when the Blackhawks host the San Jose Sharks then Vosters will take over the spot after being named Foley’s replacement Sunday. Fans will adjust to hearing a new voice, but color commentator Eddie Olczyk will return.

Blackhawks president of business operations Jamie Faulkner told The Athletic the team is working on re-signing Olczyk. His contract will expire after this season along with those of other team broadcasters.

“It’s been an honor to have sat next to Pat [Foley] all these years-he’s one of the best,” Olczyk said in a release. “Not only is he my partner in the booth, but he is one of my best friends. I’m excited for his retirement and I know he will enjoy plenty of days on the golf course. We have made so many great memories in our time together and I’m excited for the future of Blackhawks broadcasts working alongside Chris Vosters. Chris is a great addition to this broadcast team and will lead us to the next generation of Blackhawks hockey.”

Selected third overall in the 1984 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, Olczyk scored 794 points (342 goals, 452 assists) in 1,031 NHL games. He played for Chicago, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, and Pittsburgh Penguins.

In 2003, Eddie Olczyk started his broadcasting career with the Penguins and made his way back to Chicago in 2006. The Palos Heights, Illinois native also serves as the lead color commentator for nationally televised NHL games.
