Bears May Be Signing Wide Receiver DeAndre Carter Again

He caught a whopping 82% of the balls thrown his way, 32 of his 39 targets to be exact, for over 300 yards in 32 games with Houston.

The Chicago Bears met with wide receiver and return specialist DeAndre Carter on Monday, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post. Carter is the definition of a journeyman. He’s been on four teams in as many years, including the Bears in 2020.

Carter came to the Bears in Week 10 of the 2020 season. He played 15 offensive snaps and 14 on special teams, but he barely touched the football.

In a Week 15 blowout of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Carter returned from a two-game absence due to COVID-19 and returned three punts for a total of 25 yards.

Carter spent the majority of his career with the Houston Texans. Over the course of three separate stints with Houston, he played in 32 games. The veteran receiver caught a whopping 82% of the balls thrown his way, 32 of his 39 targets to be exact, for over 300 yards. It’s an extremely small sample size, but DeAndre Carter made the most of what he was given.

Carter’s best season came just last year with The Washington Football Team. He played in all 17 games, caught 54% of his targets for nearly 300 yards, and scored three times.

But Carter does have a concerning 12 fumbles in his career. This might explain why he’s bounced around the NFL as much as he has.

If the Chicago Bears do sign DeAndre Carter, it wouldn’t be a shocking addition. He’s a multi-skilled player that likely would only ever suit up on special teams. But he could provide the Bears some depth at the wide receiver position to utilize in case of an injury.
