The Chicago Blackhawks recalled top prospect Lukas Reichel from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old rookie forward leads Rockford in goals (21), assists (28), and points (49) in 49 games this season. He has not gone more than two games without scoring at least one point since December.
It’s the third time this season the Blackhawks have recalled Reichel, who has no points in five NHL games while averaging 14:10 of ice time.
The Blackhawks and IceHogs have 12 and 11 games remaining in the regular season, respectively. Chicago is eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoffs contention, while Rockford is sitting as the No. 4 seed in the Central Division. The Blackhawks will likely send Reichel back to the IceHogs to assist with their Calder Cup Playoffs push and, if they make the playoffs, play in the postseason.
If Lukas Reichel plays in at least five more NHL games, the Blackhawks will use the first year of his entry-level contract. If he plays under that amount, his contract will slide to the 2022-23 season.
