The Chicago Fire look to remain unbeaten when they visit Orlando City on Saturday at Exploria Stadium in Orlando.
The Fire (2-0-3) are one of three remaining unbeaten teams in MLS after the first five weeks of the season. The other two sides are the Philadelphia Union (4-0-1) and LAFC (4-0-1).
Chicago enters the contest Saturday after a 0-0 home draw against FC Dallas in poor weather conditions at Soldier Field. Gabriel Slonina made one save in the match for his fourth clean sheet of the season. The 17-year-old goalkeeper did not make a save in Chicago’s 0-0 draw to open the season against Orlando as the Lions failed to put a shot on goal.
The Fire could be without star midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, who is day to day with a calf injury. Shaqiri exited with the injury in the 19th minute last weekend. Chicago will remain without captain Rafa Czichos, who is in the MLS’ health and safety protocols related to COVID-19.
Orlando will be without its best defender in Antonio Carlos, who will miss 3-4 months with a hamstring injury he picked up last weekend in a 4-2 loss to LAFC. Rodrigo Schlegel and Thomas Williams will be counted on to step up in Carlos’ absence. Schlegel will take over the lion’s share of the work and pair with Robin Jansson on the back line.
