
The Chicago Steel swept the Green Bay Gamblers this weekend to clinch a first-round bye in the 2022 Clark Cup Playoffs.
The Steel (36-12-8-1) defeated the Gamblers 5-2 on Friday and 10-3 on Saturday to secure time off before beginning their quest to repeat as Clark Cup champions. The Omaha Lancers were the last USHL team to repeat in 1994.
Chicago holds the top spot in the Eastern Conference with a four-point lead against the Dubuque Fighting Saints, who have also clinched a playoff spot. The Steel, winners of the past two Anderson Cup titles as regular-season champions, trail the Western Conference’s Tri-City Storm by seven points.
Chicago and Tri-City will each have five games remaining before the playoffs after Sunday.
