The Dallas Wings have selected Veronica Burton with the seventh overall pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft.
During her time at Northwestern, she picked up plenty of hardware. She earned 2021-22 WBCA Defensive Player of the Year honors, the first Big Ten Conference student-athlete to win the award. Burton is also a three-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, she was a first-team All-Big Ten selection for the second consecutive year in 2021-22.
The Northwestern guard was only one of four NCAAW players to average at least 17 points, five assists, and five rebounds per game this past season. In 2021-22, she led the nation in steals (4.03 per game) while averaging career-highs of 17.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
Veronica Burton joins a young Dallas squad that has an average team age of 24 years old. The Wings went 14-18, finishing fifth in the Western Conference last season. Their season was cut short after losing to the reigning WNBA Champion Chicago Sky in the first round of the playoffs.
Burton will play alongside last year’s first overall pick, Charlie Collier, and Arike Ogunbowale and Allisha Gray.
