Legendary comedian Gilbert Gottfried died on April 12, 2022. He was 67 years old. Gottfried has been a world-class stand up act and actor for over 50 years. In addition to performing on stage, he has played a number of iconic movie and TV roles. His Twitter account shared the sad news:
Gilbert Gottfried, a Storied Career
Gilbert Gottfried started performing stand up at 15. He performed in New York City and quickly grew attention as a favorite act of fellow performers. Gottfried appeared on SNL as a cast member for the 1980-81 season. It was 1990’s Problem Child and 1992’s Aladdin that catapulted him into the mainstream. His character in Aladdin, Iago the Parrot, is his most iconic role. That, or as the Aflac Duck from Aflac commercials. Either way, Gilbert’s success was clearly for the birds (That one’s for you, Norm Macdonald!). Gilbert Gottfried was known for his raunchy humor. He was a powerhouse on Comedy Central’s Roasts.
Gilbert Gottfried was born on February 28, 1955. He is survived by his wife, Dara Kravitz, and their two children. Per his publicist Glenn Schwartz, Gottfried died from Recurrent Ventricular Tachycardia due to Myotonic Dystrophy type II. The world has lost a lot of humor in the past six months. RIP to another legend gone too soon.
