As training camp approaches with the WNBA Draft passing, the Chicago Sky have yet another signing. On Wednesday afternoon, the Chicago Sky announced that they have signed former DePaul standout Lexi Held to a training camp contract.
“I’m super excited,” said Held. “I love Chicago and the city has been supportive of women’s basketball. I’m happy that I’ll be able to have some familiarity being back at Wintrust and being close to DePaul.”
The sharp shooter is coming off an impressive career at DePaul averaging 13.1 PPG, shooting 36.4 percent from behind the arc and 43.2 percent from the floor.
Lexie Held – The Player
Held picked up a lot of hardware during her collegiate career. She was 2020-21 All-BIG EAST First Team, 2019-20 All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention, and BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player. In addition, she was 2019-20 BIG EAST Player of the Week, 2018-19 BIG EAST All-Freshman Team, and BIG EAST Freshman of the Week (four times). Furthermore, she was a part of three BIG EAST championships (2018, 2019, 2020).
The Sky will be getting a guard that can do it all on both ends of the court. Held is a fantastic shooter, has excellent vision, and can move the ball around with ease. In addition, being coached by Doug Bruno means she is a terrific defender.
Held’s Opportunity
“The WNBA is such a competitive league,” said Held when asked about coming to a team that has made a lot of offseason moves. “So I knew if I was able to get an opportunity to play somewhere, it’s going to be very competitive with high intensity.”
After not having a single draft pick in the 2022 Draft, the Sky will still have to evaluate a lot of talent during training camp.
Training camp is set to start on Sunday. It will be an intense next couple of weeks in training camp for all these players fighting for a roster spot. The WNBA regular season tips off on May 6.
