The 15-year-old forward scored 117 points (50 goals, 67 assists) in 52 games for the Shattuck St. Mary’s 18U prep team this past season. His point total ranks in the top-10, all-time among U17 scorers in prep hockey along with his teammate William Whitelaw and current NHL stars Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, and Alex DeBrincat.
“We’re beyond excited to have Macklin join the Steel next season,” Steel general manager Mike Garman said in a release. “He’s a natural leader with the way he plays and relentlessly competes every shift he’s on the ice. Matching his work ethic, Macklin has elite hockey sense that allows him to continuously create high quality chances for himself and his teammates.
“Macklin had an exceptional season at Shattuck St. Mary’s Prep under Tom Ward, and we’re honored and grateful to the Celebrini family for entrusting us to further Macklin’s development. Macklin exemplifies our Steel values as both a player and a person, and we can’t wait to get him in a Steel uniform this fall.”
Celebrini, a top 2024 NHL Draft prospect, is the sixth player to be tendered by Chicago since 2017. The Steel can sign another 2006 birth year player prior to the 2022 USHL Phase 1 Draft in May.
The Vancouver, British Columbia native’s signing eliminates the Steel’s first-round pick in the 2022 USHL Phase 1 Draft. Another tender would take the place of a second-round pick.
