Fans of the MCU have been clamoring for a trailer for the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder movie for weeks. #ThorLoveAndThunder has been trending every single day, and every day it’s just been people talking about the lack of a trailer. That is not the case anymore! Marvel finally released the first teaser and it’s a beauty.
The movie is scheduled to release on July 8, 2022. Or, 1986 if you ask writer/director/actor Taika Waititi. Thor: Love and Thunder is the fourth Thor movie in the MCU. It is the second under the direction of Waititi and the first movie written by him. Thor: Ragnorok released in 2017 and revitalized the character’s solo movies. The teaser trailer gives hope to see that trend continue.
Highlights of the Thor: Love and Thunder Trailer
Thor: Love and Thunder Trailer – The Tone
The trailer opens with guitar strums building up the Guns ‘N Roses Sweet Child ‘O Mine. Visually, we see shots of Thor running through the trees throughout the years. It is clear that our man Thor is going through a midlife crisis. That’s just a continuation of where we saw him in Avengers: End Game, so a great voyage to see pay off for the future of the MCU. I loved seeing Thor planting Stormbreaker in the ground. A great callback to what Thanos did with his armor after The Snap.

The Guardians of the Galaxy
Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord got a fair amount of screen time in the trailer. I’m here for it. He gives a great speech about looking to the eyes of the ones you love. Hilariously, Thor assumes that Star-Lord means him. I also noticed in that pan shot that Gamora is not with the rest of the crew. Very interesting indeed.
Natalie Portman is Back and Badass
The trailer ends with pure electricity. Pun very much intended. Our parting shot shows Thor’s original hammer Mjolnir flying through the air. Jane Foster reaches out and grabs it. We see electricity pulsate from her as the camera fades to black. Beautiful. Natalie Portman’s character in the first two Thor movies was never given their just due. I’m beyond excited to see Taika Waititi change that.
