The Chicago Blackhawks re-assigned Lukas Reichel to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL, Chicago interim head coach Derek King told the media after a 5-2 loss to the Calgary Flames on Monday.
The 19-year-old rookie forward tallied a lone assist in 11 NHL games this season. The Blackhawks opted to use the first year of his entry-level contract by having him play in double-digit games instead of having his contract slide to start in the 2022-23 season.
Reichel leads the IceHogs in goals (21), assists (28), and points (49) in 49 games this campaign. He has not gone more than two AHL games without scoring at least one point since December.
The Blackhawks, who are eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoffs contention, have six regular season games remaining this season.
The IceHogs sit in fourth place in the Central Division and are five points away from clinching a Calder Cup Playoffs spot. The top five teams in the Central Division will make the playoffs, with the Nos. 4 and 5 seeds playing each other before a series against the top-seeded Chicago Wolves (Carolina Hurricanes). Rockford has seven regular season games left, starting Tuesday at the Wolves.
