Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito is nearing a return to game action. The big right-hander says he expects to start Sunday’s series finale against the Minnesota Twins.
Giolito suffered a lower abdominal strain in his first start of the season against the Detroit Tigers. He pitched four innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six batters prior to his early exit. Giolito landed on the injured list on April 12 (retroactive to April 9).
Giolito tested himself Tuesday in a simulated game at the White Sox training facility in Arizona. Reports indicate he was throwing normally and seems to have a clean bill of health to return to the White Sox rotation.
Last season, Lucas Giolito appeared in 31 games (all starts) for the Chicago White Sox. He had an 11-9 record, 3.53 ERA, 1.103 WHIP, and 201 strikeouts across 178.2 innings. Outside of Vince Velasquez, the Sox starting rotation has looked strong to start 2022 despite injuries. Giolito returning to the rotation will surely bolster the group.
