The Chicago White Sox are in the midst of a downright awful 0-4 stretch. As they look to turn things around this weekend in Minnesota, a key piece of the outfield will be back in action. AJ Pollock returns to the White Sox lineup, batting sixth and playing centerfield Friday vs. the Twins.

Pollock made a warm first impression on his new team during his extremely limited action to open the season. He went 3-5 with a double and an RBI on Opening Day while filling in for a suspended Tim Anderson in the leadoff role.

But during the second game of the season-opening series in Detroit, Pollock pulled up gingerly after hitting a single in the third inning. He exited early with hamstring tightness and landed on the injured list shortly after. Consequently, Pollock has missed White Sox’ last 10 games.

A win-now answer to longstanding right field woes, the 11-year veteran figures to be a key piece of a White Sox team with World Series aspirations. Pollock owns a .282/.338/.482 slash line with 126 home runs and 415 RBIs in 897 career games. Last season, he slashed .297/.355/.536 with 21 home runs, 69 RBIs, and a 137 wRC+ in 117 games for the Dodgers.

With Luis Robert on the shelf for the foreseeable future due to a groin strain and Eloy Jimenez still working through ankle issues, Pollock’s return could not have come at a better time.

AJ Pollock and the Chicago White Sox open a weekend series against the Minnesota Twins Friday night at Target Field. First pitch is at 7:10 PM CT and the game will air on NBC Sports Chicago.
