The Chicago Blackhawks have added another young defenseman to the mix. The team signed Ethan Del Mastro to a three-year entry-level contract Friday morning. Del Mastro’s deal carries an $878,333 cap hit and runs through the 2024-25 season.
A fourth-round draft pick (No. 105 overall) in 2021, Del Mastro currently captains the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL. The 6-foot-4, 209 lb blueliner has 48 points (seven goals, 41 assists) in 68 games this season.
“Ethan has made tremendous strides in his game over the last few years,” Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said in a release. “He has really opened our eyes as he showcased a poise with the puck and ability to make plays on the rush this season. Combining those traits with an already strong defensive mentality gives us hope that there is still plenty of room for progression and growth in his game.”
At 19 years old, Ethan Del Mastro will have an ample opportunity for growth during the Chicago Blackhawks’ rebuild. His size should help him stand out as he makes the jump from junior to professional hockey next season.
