With the Chicago Bulls down 3-1 in their first-round playoff series against the Milwaukee Bucks, they need all the help they can get to turn it around. But those prospects just took a big hit with Zach LaVine entering the NBA’s Health and Safety protocols. He will likely miss Game 5.
LaVine is the first Bulls player to fall victim to this wave of COVID. A pair of Bulls’ assistant coaches had been placed into protocols earlier in the round as Damian Cotter and Chris Fleming missed Game 2.
What The Bulls Need For A Game 5 Win
With Zach LaVine out, DeMar DeRozan must have an impeccable scoring game. In the Chicago Bulls’ Game 2 victory, DeRozan dropped 41 but LaVine added 20 himself. Nikola Vucevic will have to help supplement what the Bulls will miss with LaVine out. This means Vucevic will need to get clean shots in the paint and draw contact to get to the free-throw line.
Patrick Williams will see an increased workload as well. Williams will be the main option to slow down Giannis Antetokounmpo. Alex Caruso is potentially out with a concussion, reducing the Bulls’ defensive ability. Williams will also need to contribute on offense. In Game 4, he took a step in the second half by scoring 13 of his 20 points in the final two quarters. With LaVine out, this will be his time to prove he was the right choice as the Bulls’ fourth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
