The Chicago Steel will begin their quest to repeat as Clark Cup champions against the Madison Capitols in the USHL Clark Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinals.

The Steel, the No. 1 seed in the East, will play the No. 5-seeded Capitols in a best-of-three series. Madison defeated the Youngstown Phantoms 2-0 in a best-of-three First Round Series to advance to the semifinals. The Capitols won 3-2 on Monday and 5-3 on Tuesday in Ohio. The Steel had a first-round bye.

Game 1 is scheduled for Saturday, April 30 at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton. Games 2 and 3, if necessary, are set for Monday, May 2 and Tuesday, May 3 at Fox Valley Ice Arena in the Chicago suburb of Geneva.

The Steel were 6-2-2-0 against the Capitols this season, including a 4-1-0-0 mark at home. Joe Miller (Maple Leafs) scored a team-high 12 points (three goals, nine assists) against Madison in the season series. Kyle Kukkonen (Ducks) led Madison with 10 points (four goals, six goals) against the Steel.

The Steel will see a familiar face at the other end in former Chicago goaltender Simon Latkoczy, who helped the Steel win the 2021 Clark Cup. He posted 23 wins, a 3.31 goals-against average, and a .887 save percentage this season.

Chicago is without Adam Fantilli and Nick Moldenhauer, who are playing for Canada at the IIHF U18 World Championships in Germany. The forwards will return to the Steel for the playoffs after the tournament.
