Currently on a 1-9 skid, the Chicago White Sox could use some good news. They’ll get some of that Friday as Luis Robert returns to the lineup after missing six games due to a groin strain. Robert will bat fifth and play centerfield when the White Sox open a weekend series against the Angels.
Robert suffered the injury on April 21 in Cleveland. Running out a groundball in the eighth inning, he tweaked his groin and immediately exited the game.
White Sox manager Tony La Russa initially hoped to get Robert back after a three-game absence, but that scenario did not come to fruition. Adam Engel, Adam Haseley, and AJ Pollock have filled in at centerfield during Luis Robert’s absence.
In 11 games this season, Luis Robert is slashing .205/.222/.386 with two home runs and three RBIs. The Chicago White Sox have gone 1-5 with him on the shelf. While he was in a bit of a funk at the plate before the injury, his dynamic abilities in all facets of the game can only help the South Siders’ chances of righting the ship.
