The Chicago Bears stunned everyone with the way GM Ryan Poles finished the 2022 NFL Draft. We’re only several hours removed from the end of the plethora of picks the Bears acquired via trade and now they are releasing quarterback Nick Foles.

NFL Network reporter, Mike Garafolo, announced the Chicago Bears agreed to release Foles. This helps him find a new home somewhere in the NFL. But it also eases the Bears’ minds as they no longer have to seek out a trade partner.

Nick Foles’ agent, Justin Schulman, confirmed the news stating:

“Ryan Poles did the classy thing and Nick appreciates it.”

The 33-year-old quarterback spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Bears. He appeared in nine games over that span, starting only eight of them. Foles threw for 2,100 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

After acquiring quarterback Trevor Siemian in March, the question became: What do the Bears do with Nick Foles?

Many people thought the Bears could use him as leverage to trade in the draft. Others anticipated a mid-season move to a needy team hunting the postseason.

With Foles’ release, the Bears will have to eat some of his dead salary cap money but it comes with the cheaper price of peace of mind. Moving on from Nick Foles means the Bears have faith in Justin Fields and that may be the best news of the offseason yet.
