
The Chicago Steel will not repeat as USHL Clark Cup champions after they allowed four unanswered goals to the Madison Capitols in a 4-2 loss in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
The Steel, the No. 1 seed in the East, fell 4-2 in Game 1 at the No. 5-seeded Madison then tied the best-of-three series with a 2-0 win in Game 2. Jayden Perron and Nicholas Moldenhauer each scored for Chicago in Game 3 before Jake Dunlap scored two of the Capitols’ four goals to advance.
Former Chicago Steel goaltender Simon Latkoczy made 28 saves in the series-clinching game for Madison. He made 80 total saves and allowed two goals in each game during the series.
Jayden Perron (one goal, two assists) and Jake Livanavage (three assists) each led the Steel with three points in the playoffs. Carolina Hurricanes prospect Jackson Blake, Lukas Gustafsson, and Moldenhauer each had a goal and an assist. Adam Fantilli, a top 2023 NHL Draft prospect, did not score a point in the series after being the 2021 Clark Cup MVP.
Madison will face No. 3-seeded Muskegon Lumberjacks in the Eastern Conference Final. The Tri-City Storm and Sioux City Musketeers, the West’s top two seeds, will meet in the Western Conference Final.
