Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Connor Murphy is a nominee for the 2022 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, the NHL announced Wednesday. Each team nominates a player for the award, which goes annually “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”
A tough blue-line presence on the ice, Murphy is an altruistic leader in the community off the ice. The Blackhawks’ alternate captain has been a driving force behind several charitable acts.
After signing a contract extension with Chicago last summer, Murphy organized a donation matching campaign for frontline workers. He has also been a mainstay of several Blackhawks Charities outreach events, as pictured above.
Since the award’s inception in 1988, no Chicago Blackhawks player has won the King Clancy Trophy. Connor Murphy will have to beat out the field below to become the first. The Professional Hockey Writers’ Association and the NHL Broadcasters’ Association will choose the winner.
