Three current members of the Chicago Blackhawks will be suiting up for Team USA next week at the 2022 IIHF World Championship. On Thursday morning, USA Hockey released its 24-man roster for the upcoming World Championship, which will be held in Tampere and Helsinki, Finland, from May 13-29.

Brothers Caleb and Seth Jones will both be staples of the United States’ blue line next week in Finland. Seth leads all players on the roster with five prior international appearances and will likely be the front-runner for team captain. Caleb, who’s set to become a restricted free agent with the Blackhawks this summer, will be representing Team USA for the first time as a professional.

A pleasant surprise, Blackhawks fan-favorite Sam Lafferty was one of 13 forwards named to the U.S. roster on Thursday. Lafferty recently inked a two-year contract extension with Chicago after proving to be an effective player in his first 46 games with the team. Just another reminder that GM Kyle Davidson flipped Alex Nylander for Lafferty in a one-for-one swap with Pittsburgh. Pretty solid move if you ask me.

Former Blackhawks

Along with Lafferty and the Jones bros, a couple of former Blackhawks will be playing for Team USA at the World Championship, too.

Hawks’ 2013 third-round pick John Hayden — now a member of the Buffalo Sabres — will be making the third international appearance of his career. Hayden played in 113 games for the Blackhawks from 2016-2019 before being dealt to the New Jersey Devils for John Quenneville.

Adam Gaudette, whom many projected to be a breakout candidate for the Blackhawks back in training camp, will be making his debut for USA Hockey in Finland. Gaudette was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks near the end of the 2021 season, but never found a consistent spot in the lineup under then-coach Jeremy Colliton. After just 15 games with the Blackhawks, Gaudette was placed on waivers and claimed by the Ottawa Senators on Nov. 27.

Team USA will make the trek over to Finland this weekend and has an exhibition game scheduled against Team Canada on Wednesday, May 11. The U.S. opens the World Championship on Friday, May 13 against Latvia at 9:15 am ET.
