The Chicago Cubs will wrap up a six-game homestand when they host the LA Dodgers for a three-game set, starting with a doubleheader Saturday at Wrigley Field.
The series was scheduled to start Friday, but inclement weather pushed the series to start Saturday. The makeup game will be at 6:40 p.m. as the second game of the doubleheader. The first game is moved up one hour to 12:05 p.m.
The Cubs (9-14) were swept in a two-game series (3-1, 4-3) by the Chicago White Sox in the Crosstown Series. The North Siders have now dropped five of their past six games and have the NL-leading Dodgers up next. The Cubs’ lackluster start isn’t a surprise and is on par with their lowly seasons from the early 2010s before the Golden Era started.
The Dodgers (16-7) have won three straight and four of their past five games. Los Angeles flexed its muscle with wins of 3-1 and 9-1 against the San Francisco Giants in their latest series. Mookie Betts is doing Mookie Betts things, and Freddie Freeman is finding his footing in his first season in LA. The Dodgers sent a clear message to the Giants, who ended LA’s seven-year reign atop the NL West, and the rest of the league that they’re back on top.
Propt up by the MLB-worst Cincinnati Reds, the Cubs sit in fourth place in the NL Central and figure to remain there unless they can edge out the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Dodgers, meanwhile, are a World Series favorite and look to rack up wins against inferior competition like the Cubs to help them in a tight NL West.
