The Chicago Bears rookie minicamp is underway and after the first day, Matt Eberflus met with the media. He opened the press conference by thanking the coaches and then spoke on a wide range of subjects.
Coach Eberflus discussed the Bears’ defense gaining Kyler Gordon and Jaquan Brisker, and how the first practice went.
Initially, Matt Eberflus talked about the tempo of the practice. He states that it needs some work but he expects that during rookie minicamp.
But the draft picks all looked explosive and quick, one of the main attractions that led the Chicago Bears to take them.
Matt Eberflus On The Second Round Picks
Reporters asked coach Eberflus about Kyler Gordon potentially having an injury but the rookie defensive back was only dealing with cramps. Eberflus expects him to be hydrated and ready to go for Saturday’s practice.
When asked about Jaquan Brisker, Matt Eberflus had a lot of praise for the rookie:
“The hitting is there. It’s like that old term my mentors used to use is quickness, instincts, and striking ability. That’s what he has and those are as true today as they were years ago. He has those attributes with a positive energy.”

Then Jason Lieser from The Chicago Sun-Times asked a fantastic question. He asked if there is an advantage to Kyler Gordon and Jaquan Brisker starting their careers together.
Furthermore, he asked if they get a certain advantage from learning Eberflus’ system first.
“I do think there is an advantage. They’re starting at the floor and working their way up. They will have that special bond. They’re smart guys and they’re going to work together.”

Peanut Tillman and Justin Fields’ New Weapon
Matt Eberflus briefly talked about Charles ‘Peanut’ Tillman’s recent visit to Halas Hall. He described how Peanut’s message was outstanding to the group. Tillman discussed with the rookies what it really means to be a member of the Chicago Bears.
Finally, Eberflus talked about the Bears’ newest wide receiver, Velus Jones Jr. The first-time head coach praised the rookie’s high energy and said he functioned well playing both inside and outside.
