The Chicago White Sox are looking forward to having starting third baseman Yoan Moncada return to the lineup tonight against the Cleveland Guardians. Although, with Moncada returning, someone has to go. That someone is Jake Burger.
Burger is heading back to Triple-A Charlotte to get consistent at-bats with the Knights. Burger, who was the 11th pick of the 2017 MLB Draft, has been with the White Sox since the season started.
Jake Burger In 2022
So far in the 2022 season for the Chicago White Sox, Burger is slashing .239/.276/.352. He hit two home runs, drove in seven, and took four walks in 77 plate appearances.
But Jake Burger struggled over the last seven days at the plate. He’s had more strikeouts (11) than hits (4) since May 2nd. It may be a good situation for him in Charlotte to gain some confidence back at the plate so he can be ready for whenever the White Sox need to bring him back.
Some fans were confused as to why the White Sox would send Burger down instead of somebody like Danny Mendick. There are two potential reasons behind that.
Jake Burger gets consistent playing time in Charlotte that he won’t receive here in Chicago. Additionally, Mendick is a more versatile defender. Though Burger did an admirable job filling in for Yoan Moncada, it’s nice to see the White Sox infield get back to full strength.

I thought Jake did a great job. He doing better than Garcia, Harrison, Mendick, Pollock and both catchers. Jake probably should request a trade at this point.
