Chicago White Sox fans can expect to catch their first glimpse of Yoan Moncada and Joe Kelly Monday night against Cleveland, Tony La Russa told reporters after yesterday’s game. La Russa went on to say that Moncada will bat second against the Guardians and Luis Robert will bat cleanup.

Put Up Time For Yoan Moncada

Moncada suffered a right oblique strain at the end of Spring Training. It appears he has returned to form based on the way he shredded Triple-A pitching slashing .318/.360/.636. Moncada, and the fans, hope to build upon a good 2021 season that was disappointing because it was just good.

Moncada earned a lot of superstar hype when he was the best prospect in baseball during his minor league career. In 2019, we saw Moncada reach an all-star level of performance, but as he enters his age-27 season, it still isn’t clear if Moncada will indeed become a perennial All-Star.

The Bullpen

Right-handed reliever Joe Kelly signed to a two-year, $17 million free-agent deal in March and will take Bummer’s roster spot. Kelly delayed his start to the season because of a right biceps nerve injury.

The White Sox reinforced their bullpen with the signing of Kelly and fellow pen mate Kendall Graveman. Fans were a bit perplexed by these signings because both players signed prior to the trade of Craig Kimbrel.

White Sox Health Issues

With Yoan Moncada and Joe Kelly back, the White Sox finally gain some relief from the neverending injuries that have hampered the club all season. However, the return of Kelly coincides with yet another injury. Aaron Bummer will be placed on the injured list with a knee problem.

This explains a lot in regards to Bummer’s inconsistent start to the season. Bummer has lacked command and owns a 4.91 ERA in 11 games. Kelly will take Bummer’s spot on the 26-man roster and should fit in nicely with the team and fans.
