The injuries keep coming for the Chicago Cubs. After reports that starting pitcher Marcus Stroman is heading to the IL, it looks like closer David Robertson is en route to the IL as well.
After a stellar start to the season for Robertson, this is not good news for the Cubs. With now two reports of players headed to the IL without designation, it would not be surprising if there are more added to that list in the next few days (COVID?). Let’s cross our fingers that’s not the case.
Minor League Call Ups and Options
With reports of first baseman Frank Schwindel being recalled from Triple-A, right-handed pitcher Adrian Sampson has been optioned back to Iowa after appearing in one game with the Cubs.
Also, left-handed pitcher Conner Menez has been called up to the major league squad. In 16-plus innings for the Iowa Cubs, he’s pitched to the tune of a 2.16 ERA with 19 strikeouts, seven walks, and a 10.3 SO/9.
Whether it’s the past week of tough opponents or the current series against a tough team in San Diego. In addition, reports of players headed to the IL and the five-game losing streak prior to Monday don’t provide much to be excited about with the Cubs. Surely there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, right?
