In what is becoming an everyday event now, the Chicago Cubs could potentially be adding yet another player to the Injured List. Shortstop Nico Hoerner exited Wednesday’s game against the San Diego Padres after colliding with an umpire during the first inning.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Cubs shortstop collided with the second base umpire while trying to relay a throw from outfielder Jason Heyward. You can watch the play here.
With a plethora of players already on the injured list for the Cubs, this is not what fans want to see from one of the better players on the roster so far early on in the 2022 season. Hoerner is currently hitting .271 with 7 extra-base hits and 11 RBI.
As of right now, the injury is being reported as right ankle soreness. He will undergo further evaluation. Despite losing Nico Hoerner, the Cubs went on to win the ballgame by a final of 7-5.
