South Park will be releasing their newest movie streaming directly on Paramount+. The movie is titled South Park: The Streaming Wars and will release on June 1, 2022. This marks the third movie that creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have made for Paramount+. They have previously released two other movies, South Park: Post COVID and South Park: Post COVID: The Return of COVID in 2021.
The Movie
Cartman locks horns with his mom in a battle of wills, while an epic conflict unfolds and threatens South Park’s very existence.

The synopsis of the special from Paramount+ reads: “Cartman locks horns with his mom in a battle of wills, while an epic conflict unfolds and threatens South Park’s very existence.” The description and teaser trailer don’t tell us too much. Historically, Mrs. Cartman is woe to butt heads with Eric Cartman. I’m hoping that we see her really dig in. Maybe, just maybe, she tags in Cesar Millan for help.
As far as the “epic conflict” that unfolds, I’ve got a feeling it will tie into the craziness of streaming mania. They’ve already poked fun at how every brand is merging with another, sticking a “+” or “Max” to the end and calling it a day. I can see them taking that notion and really running with it.
South Park on Paramount+
The show’s chain of custody is a little hairy, let me try to break it down. South Park originated as a TV show on Comedy Central in 1997. Viacom took ownership of Comedy Central in 2003. ViacomCBS sold the streaming rights to HBO Max in 2019. New episodes of the show appear on HBO Max the day after airing on Comedy Central. That deal runs through 2025. In August 2021, ViacomCBS announced another deal with the show’s creators. They would guarantee that the show would air on Comedy Central through 2027 and season 30, and 14 original movies made directly for Paramount+. No wonder they are going out of their way to tease corporate mergers!
