It was the Chicago Sky’s game from start to finish, as the Sky tore apart the New York Liberty 83-50 in route to their first win of the season.
It was the Dana Evans and Rebekah Gardner show Wednesday as the two combined for 29 points. Evans went 3-3 from three-point range. At the same time, Gardner, in her WNBA debut, put up 14 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
Keep in mind this is the 31-year-old’s first WNBA contract. She formally signed with the Sky back in 2017 on a training camp contract before she was sadly waived. However, in her first game with the Sky, the guard showed up, making play after play on the offensive end.
“She will be a great addition,” said Candace Parker when asked about Gardner’s performance. “Maybe ROY.”
The Sky played tremendous defense holding New York to 33.3% from the field and 13.3% from three. Stefanie Dolson was held to six points and six rebounds against her former team.
Offensively, Chicago could not have played a better game. They shot 45.6% from the floor and 45.5% behind the arc.
Keep in mind, the Sky were without two of their best shooters. Allie Quigley is out, but should be back on Saturday, and finals MVP Kahleah Copper is also out because she is still overseas in Spain.
Once Quigley and Copper come back, this team that is going to give their opponents nightmares.
