Cubs at Diamondbacks Series Preview: Probables, How to Watch, More

The Chicago Cubs continue their six-game West Coast road trip when they visit the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game set starting Friday at Chase Field.

The Cubs (11-19) ended their losing streak at five games with a 6-0 win Monday at the San Diego Padres. Chicago then fell 5-4 before Alfonso Rivas hit a tie-breaking two-run single in the eighth inning to lead the Cubs to a 7-5 victory to win the series.

It wasn’t all good news for the Cubs, who saw shortstop Nico Hoerner depart with a sprained right ankle. Chicago, which already has a lengthy injury list, also was without outfielder Seiya Suzuki for a second straight game due to a sore right ankle.

The Diamondbacks (17-15) have won seven of their past nine, but are coming off an embarrassing 11-3 loss to the Miami Marlins on Wednesday. Arizona gave up eight runs in the ninth inning in the loss. Chicago native Alek Thomas, former Kane County Cougars outfielder, hit his first career home run in the game.

The highlight of the Chicago-Arizona series will be Arizona pitcher Zach Davies facing his former team. The Cubs acquired Davies in the Yu Darvish trade with San Diego, but he signed with Arizona in March after one season in Chicago. Davies’ one year with the Cubs was highlighted by being one of four pitchers in the first combined no-hitter in franchise history.
