The Chicago Fire’s Xherdan Shaqiri is Major League Soccer’s highest-paid player with a guaranteed compensation of $8.15 million, according to the MLS Players Association.
The Swiss international beat Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez of the LA Galaxy for the top spot. The Mexican international is at a guaranteed of $6 million. However, the data is set as of April 15, and does not include Toronto FC’s signing of forward Lorenzo Isigne from Napoli that will hit when the summer transfer window starts.
Xherdan Shaqiri also has the highest base salary among MLS players, totaling $7.35 million. He has scored two goals in nine starts for the Fire this season. The Fire and Shaqiri agreed to a contract that will see him with the club through the 2024 season.
Chicago has three other players in seven figures: defender Rafael Czichos ($1.33m), midfielder Gaston Gimenez ($2.36m), and forward Kacper Przybylko ($1.21m).
The Chicago Fire hold the fifth-highest paid roll on guaranteed compensation at $17,645,464. The club ranks behind Atlanta United ($21m), LA Galaxy ($20.13m), Inter Miami ($18.88m), and New England Revolution ($18.14m).
