The Chicago Fire will look to end their winless streak across all competitions at eight matches when they visit the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
The Fire (2-5-4) dropped their eighth consecutive match with a 2-1 loss to FC Cincinnati on Saturday at Soldier Field. Chicago has lost four straight in MLS play, and hasn’t won since a 3-1 victory against Sporting Kansas City on March 19.
The Fire will have forwards Kacper Przybylko and Jairo Torres available against the Red Bulls, Chicago coach Ezra Hendrickson told CHGO Sports. Torres made his club debut in the 71st minute against Cincy and could start Wednesday. Przybylko’s two goals are tied with midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri for the most by a Fire player this season. The potential additions of Przybylko and Torres would boost the Fire’s offensive attack against a stingy New York defense (8.4 attempts allowed per match).
The Red Bulls (5-2-4) dropped their first road points of the season in a 1-1 draw Saturday at Philadelphia. New York has found success on the road this season but has yet to win a home match (0-2-3). Forward Patryk Klimala leads the Red Bulls offense with three goals and three assists, while Lewis Morgan’s four goals pace New York.
Series History
One of Chicago’s losses during its winless streak is a 2-1 home loss to the Red Bulls on April 30. Shaqiri scored on a penalty kick in the 16th minute, but Klimala lifted New York to victory with goals in the 75th and 91st minutes. Klimala’s second goal came on a penalty kick.
