Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears front office continue to add new blood to their scouting department. On Thursday, a report surfaced suggesting they hired Ryan Cavanaugh as their midwest area scout.
Cavanaugh brings 20 years of experience in the NFL as a scout with him to Chicago. He began his career in the Indianapolis Colts’ operations department during minicamp and training camp in 2000. Then in 2001, he got his official start with the Colts, where he spent the next eight seasons. Of which, six seasons he was their area scout. Then, in 2009, he joined the Houston Texans as their midwest area scout for twelve seasons.
In 2021, he left the NFL and joined the Ohio State Buckeyes as their college scouting director.

Now, he returns to the NFL ranks resuming a role in which he held previously. However, there may be a narrow overlap between Cavanaugh and Justin Fields at OSU for whatever that’s worth.
