The Chicago Cubs have scratched veteran catcher Yan Gomes from tonight’s lineup with left oblique tightness, according to Bruce Levine of 670 The Score.
Gomes is batting .247 with two home runs and seven RBI for the season so far. Although his offensive numbers aren’t super “eye-popping,” he’s had several clutch moments at the plate and has played stellar defense all season long.
Oblique injuries are something to not take lightly, especially for a catcher, but let’s hope this is nothing but a minor setback for Gomes.
The Cubs are currently in a four-game road series against the Cincinnati Reds and are looking to finish it on a high note after coming off a 7-4 win last night.
