On Tap Eats: Novi’s Beef is Berwyn’s Best

Novi’s Beef in Berwyn is some of Chicagoland’s best! On the inaugural On Tap Eats segment, Fitzmagic tries out Novi’s for the first time!

For my first stop on my quest to try all of Chicagoland’s best eats, I stopped at Novi’s Beef in Berwyn. This suggestion was given by Streetzathon and I was happy with the suggestion.

A little background on Novi’s before I bite into the good stuff. According to their website, Novi’s (currently located at 6746 Ogden Ave. in Berwyn) started as a shack on the corner of Ogden and Oak Park Avenue in 1960 serving up some of the best Italian beef and sausage in the area before growing into the 70-seat establishment that it’s currently in today.

While Novi’s offers dozens of options from beef to burgers to pasta and even tacos, I went there for the Italian beef.

I was not disappointed.

The Good Stuff

My favorite style of beef is served juicy with giardiniera. The worker behind the counter said they are served juicy, but they can add extra. I said, “pour it on.” From the first bite, I was hooked. The beef was tender and tasty, the giardiniera was just hot enough and with plenty of flavor and the Turano Bread was on point as always. They even toasted the bread ever so slightly to give it a crispy added touch. I bought the meal deal so it came with a side of fresh-cut French Fries, which were perfectly cooked. If that doesn’t fill you up, they have a selection of desserts. I had the baklava which was a great way to finish the meal.

Novi’s doesn’t stop at just beef and sausage. Their menu is filled with traditional fast food fare such as burgers, hot dogs, polish sausages, gyros, tacos, chicken, pitas, and even pasta. They even have meatless options and a variety of appetizers. If you have a crowd to feed at home, Novi’s has a catering menu or you can buy the beef and sausage by the pound to go. You can even get Novi’s shipped to you if you’re out of town and missing your favorite Italian beef abroad. Novi’s is open seven days a week, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Novi’s was the perfect start for this new segment. It’s definitely a place I’d like to try again. I’m almost upset with myself that I hadn’t tried it years earlier. But, that’s the point of all of this. Chicagoland has so many great spots, that it’s impossible to try them all or even know of all of them. Thanks again to Streetzathon for the suggestion. Keep sending them our way with the hashtag #OnTapEats.
