Prior to Tuesday’s series opener against the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Luis Robert on the COVID Related injured list. In his place, the club recalled Jake Burger from Triple-A Charlotte.
The White Sox won two of three games against the New York Yankees over the weekend and had a day off Monday. During their off-day, news broke that Yankees’ third baseman, Josh Donaldson, was heading to the COVID Related injured list.
The Yankees previously placed Joey Gallo and Kyle Higashioka on the COVID Related injured list as well. There has been no direct connection between Robert’s designation and the Yankees’ cases. But it’s likely similar to the situation the White Sox found themselves in earlier this season when several staff members from Cleveland tested positive. Following the series finale’s postponement, the White Sox lost Lucas Giolito to the COVID Related injured list.
In 33 games so far in 2022, Luis Robert has 39 hits and six home runs. He’s slashing .285/.319/.438 with an OPS of .757 and 17 RBIs.
With Robert on the shelf, the Sox recalled Jake Burger from Triple-A Charlotte. Burger has appeared in 21 games so far for the White Sox in 2022. He has 17 hits in 77 plate appearances including two home runs. In 13 games with Charlotte this season, Burger has 10 hits in 47 official at-bats with three home runs.
The Chicago White Sox begin a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox tonight at 7:10 PM CT.
