On Tuesday, several Chicago Bears players and coaches met with the media. Recently acquired linebacker, Nicholas Morrow, spoke and had some interesting comments about the Bears’ defense. He also discussed his excitement to play with Roquan Smith and how the pair will work together.

Reporters asked Morrow the typical questions in a Chicago Bears press conference. But one specific comment stood out that shines a light on where this defense is headed. It’s nothing new but it shows the Bears’ leadership has this organization pointed in the right direction.

All offseason long, the description surrounding the Chicago Bears’ new philosophy is speed. Head coach Matt Eberflus spoke multiple times on this facet of football. Nicholas Morrow’s comments confirm that the Bears are focusing on just that.

When asked about playing with Roquan Smith, Morrow praised his teammate.

“Playing with Roquan is nice. He’s fast and his pre-snap reads are good. Being able to anticipate is so helpful”

Any Bears fan knows that Roquan Smith is a seriously talented NFL linebacker. He’s one of the best in the league but he aspires to be the best in the league. With the addition of the speed and athleticism of Nicholas Morrow, the Bears might have one of the best pairs of linebackers across the NFL.

Morrow can tell in May, albeit early in the offseason, that they have something special in Chicago. Their combined speed and knowledge of the game of football could create a monumental shift in the respect the Chicago Bears deserve.
