Only time will tell where Zach LaVine winds up playing basketball next season. But a headliner from one of the teams rumored to have its eye on the impending free agent thought he was destined to team up with LaVine four years ago.
During his interview on Stacey King’s Gimme the Hot Sauce Podcast, Atlanta’s Trae Young said he thought he would’ve been a Bull had he been available for them to snag with the seventh pick in the 2018 draft.
“I knew I was going either six to Orlando or seven to ya’ll,” said Young, whom the Mavericks took with the fifth pick before trading him and the first-round pick that became Cam Reddish to the Hawks for Luka Dončić. The Bulls, of course, selected the now-departed Wendell Carter Jr. that year.
“I’m a fan of the history of the game, so I knew what [Chicago] brings as basketball fans,” Young continued before sharing his thoughts about his workout with the Bulls. “Pre-draft is stressful, but that was a fun workout.”
The fireworks show Young, the recently minted All-NBA Second Team guard, and LaVine orchestrating together would’ve been fun, too. Though, it’s debatable whether or not that duo would’ve been enough to make noise in the playoffs.
