According to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic, Chicago Cubs veteran pitcher Wade Miley is headed to the 15-day injured list with a strained left shoulder.
Miley, who started the season on the IL, has only made three starts so far this year, but has been very productive for the Cubs. In 16 innings the lefty has a 3.38 ERA with 10 strikeouts and one win.
It’s unsure as to how serious the injury is, but with Miley heading to the IL the Cubs recalled pitcher Mark Leiter Jr. to the active roster. In five games with the Cubs the righty has made three starts and holds a 6.57 ERA with 12 strikeouts, seven walks, and a 1.541 WHIP in 12-plus innings.
It was assumed that Miley’s signing was a “sign and trade” type of deal, but with his second trip to the IL already this season, the idea of the veteran pitcher being traded before the July trade deadline could be in jeopardy.
The Cubs finish a two-game series with the Chicago White Sox this afternoon and then begin a four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers beginning tomorrow with a double header at Wrigley Field.
