When former Chicago Bears defensive lineman, Akiem Hicks, met with the Tampa Bay media, he mentioned the Bears didn’t even talk to him about re-signing. Hicks signed a one-year deal with the Buccaneers last week and has a desire to win.
That desire to win played a large role in Hicks’ decision to sign in Tampa Bay. The 32-year-old said to reporters that it’s nice being back with Tom Brady. He continued by praising Brady and knowing with him at the helm of the offense, there is always a chance to win football games.
Furthermore, Akiem Hicks threw shade at the Chicago Bears quarterback situation. He stated:
“When I came into the league, I had Drew Brees and Tom Brady as my first two quarterbacks. Then I went to Chicago, it wasn’t Drew Brees and Tom Brady, let me say that right?”

Hicks says he feels spoiled to have a guy like Brady who can deliver on the other side of the ball. It benefits the defense to have a quarterback who knows how to manage the clock correctly.
The Chicago Bears haven’t exactly been the pinnacle of NFL quarterback play and Akiem Hicks knows it. Without directly calling out guys like Mitchell Trubisky or Matt Nagy, Hicks lofted a softball of an insult to the Bears.
It’s no secret and Bears fans should remember one thing: those days are respectfully behind this team. At least we hope they are.
