Cubs: New Game, Morel of the Same

Cubs rookie Christopher Morel extended his on-base streak to 21 games after taking the first pitch of Tuesday’s game to deep left field.

The Cubs/Orioles game was just underway in Baltimore. Fans were still settling in their seats. The echoes of “play ball” were still ringing through the walls of Camden Yards. However, there is a reason that fans should be in their seats for first pitch. Why? On the game’s very first pitch from Baltimore’s Kyle Bradish, Christopher Morel led it off with a home run.

Before the season, they moved the left field fences back in Baltimore. Apparently, they didn’t push it far enough back for Morel. That’s certainly one way to extend your on-base streak to 21 games. As it stands, Morel’s current streak only trails Rocco Baldelli for longest on-base streak to begin a career since the year 2000. The rookie has been on an absolute tear since being called up back in the middle of May from Double-A Tennessee.
