Tiger Woods was last seen limping off Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the third round of the PGA Championship on May 21 before withdrawing prior to the final round on May 22. Woods had previously said he hoped to play the U.S. Open at The Country Club next week, but announce on Twitter he would not be competing in the championship.

Less than 18 months ago, Woods experienced a near-life threatening car crash that caused a compound fracture in his right leg when he rolled an SUV off a cliff in the Los Angeles area. Woods made a triumphant return to competition during the 2022 Masters, making the cut and finishing 47th in the field.

Whats On Tap Next?

Woods has been very open about his ability or lack thereof to compete full-time on the PGA Tour. The U.S. Open was likely the last start the 82-time PGA Tour champion would’ve tee’d it up stateside prior to the Open Championship at St. Andrews.

Woods confirmed in an interview at the Master’s his determination to play the Open at the Old Course, arguably his favorite course to play in his words, and Woods tweet keeps that possibility open.

The news of competing at the JP McManus Pro-am July 4-5 is news, but not surprising. Links golf is different and 36 holes of tournament-level golf will give Woods reps before heading to Scotland and the Old Course.

Woods has won two of his three Claret Jugs at the Old Course. The Open Championship is set to begin July 14.
