Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Wade Miley exited Friday night’s game against the New York Yankees in the fourth inning with an apparent injury.

Miley, who came off the IL on Friday after dealing with a shoulder strain, started tonight’s matchup against the Yankees and was pitching well. In 3.0 innings the lefty had three strikeouts, one walk, and gave up zero runs. Coming into the bottom of the fourth inning to throw his warmup pitches, it was clear something was wrong. After being evaluated by manager David Ross and the Cubs’ trainer, Miley left the game before throwing a pitch in the fourth inning.

Friday night’s outing was Miley’s first start since May 22 after being placed on the 15-day IL with a shoulder strain. When healthy, the lefty has been pitched well for the Cubs. In 19 innings this season, he holds a 2.84 ERA with 12 strikeouts.

It’s uncertain exactly what kind of injury Miley might have, but another stint on the IL could be possible. With reports earlier today that Marcus Stroman is heading to the IL, another pitcher added to the IL would be a blow to the Cubs.
