According to Chicago Sun-Times reporter, Daryl Van Schouwen, the White Sox are expected to activate RHP Joe Kelly. Furthermore, starting pitcher Michael Kopech had fluid drained from his right knee today.

Veteran righty, Joe Kelly, left the White Sox game against Boston on May 25th with what looked like a hamstring injury. Kelly struck out two batters in the eighth inning before leaving with White Sox training staff.

The White Sox initially put Joe Kelly on the 15-day injured list the day after the injury occured. Chicago’s Tuesday matchup with the Detroit Tigers will be Kelly’s first White Sox action since the injury.

Joe Kelly Is Expected Back But Will Michael Kopech Be Available For Sunday?

Michael Kopech left Sunday’s loss against the Texas Rangers in the first inning after tweaking his right leg while throwing a pitch. At first glance, the injury appeared to be his right ankle.

After leaving the game and having further evaluation by the White Sox training staff and medical teams, they deemed Kopech was dealing with right knee discomfort.

Today, doctors drained fluid out of Michael Kopech’s right knee. His condition is reportedly improving and he is still an option for Chicago’s weekend series with the Houston Astros. Whether or not he’ll be able to take the mound on Sunday depends on how he progresses throughout the week.

The White Sox have two games with the Tigers on Tuesday and Wednesday before a day off on Thursday. The three-game series with the Astros starts on Friday night on Apple TV+.

If Michael Kopech is unavailable for the start on Sunday, Lance Lynn will likely take the mound instead.
